Pablo Picasso painting fetches $104 million dollars at New York City auction

Dora Maar with Cat, by Pablo Picasso

Art is invaluable and you can’t really put a price to it. Picasso’s Nude, Green Leaves and Bust is a perfect example. The whole art world was stunned when it fetched a price of $106.5 million at Christie’s in New York. Now there is good news for art lovers, particularly those who love Picasso’s work. This most expensive painting is on display for the people to see and admire at the Tate Modern.

This painting was created in 1932, which by the way was the most fruitful year in Pablo Picasso’s creative life. He had done a series of paintings of his mistress and muse Marie-Therese Walter. This painting was part of a colorful explosion of works painted in January 1932 in anticipation of the major retrospective that he was planning.

All works by Picasso have become very valuable and they generally exceed the pre sale estimates at the auctions. La Lecture, which is another masterpiece by him from the same period fetched $40 million earlier this year. Le Reve is another valuable work from the period by Picasso which can surprise every one with the price it commands if it is put under auction.
